Thanks everyone.
We just happened to have a bunch of cinderblocks on hand. So we decided to use them. The nice thing is you can just arrange them anyway you like & then shovel in your soil.

Re: 2023 Garden Thread
We planted Morning Glory seeds in pots a while back and were thrilled when they immediately emerged. Today, we were sitting out back.
'Those don't look like Morning Glories. The stems are thick and hairy and the leaves are wrong.'
We took a closer look.
TOMATO SURPRISE!
Tomato seeds must have been hiding in the compost we filled the planters with. NO idea of the variety but it'll be fun finding out.

Good surprise!
Our tomatoes are finally starting to take off after this rain we’ve had over the last week or so.

I’m not doing too good either. I figured it’s just because I’m a novice Texas Gardner.
Of 7 tomato plants, only the cherry and other small one are doing much. Romas, San Marzano, and bush types are slow, and little fruit.
Only one of 4 cucumber plants grew, got our first one yesterday.
Squash doing pretty good.
Pepper plants are short and sad looking.
I’ll be retired next year, hope I can figure out what I’m doing. Might actually till up a garden for some of it.

Much the same here; AND, if you’ll go back to the first 2 or 3 pages of this thread and look I Tilled my Butt off. I’ve done this many years and sometimes you’re the Windshield and sometimes you’re the Bug

Wife and I tend a neighbor’s garden when they travel. I have the same story going on here. But hey I like squash.

Re: 2023 Garden Thread
I wonder if anyone could help me ID these insects on my tomato plants. I had assumed they were aphids and tried a dilute soap solution on the leaves, but it didn't do much.
Any ideas on how should I treat the plants?
thanks for your help.
BTW: The second photo is a different leaf with possibly different insects on it:

Re: 2023 Garden Thread
second on the sevin, dust or spray its a very good broad spectrum pesticide apply late evening, as ultra violet seems to kill sevins effectiveness... they sold recently and reformulated the product, I have not used the new formula or read about it yet.

Re: 2023 Garden Thread
Thanks for the late-evening application tip, Spacetrucker. Luckily, I have a spray bottle of Sevin that's a few years old, so it would still be the old formula.

I didn’t know that, interesting. It’s been a staple for us for as long as I can remember which is becoming shorter by the day
